The Top 500 Songs Of 2011 - Part 50 of 50, #10-#1

#10 Coldplay - "Hurts Like Heaven" from "Mylo Xyloto" - The title and some elements of the song are an homage to the all-time classic "Just Like Heaven" by The Cure. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnludwl8cLs

#9 Foster The People - "Pumped Up Kicks" from "Torches" - One of the biggest indie rock songs of all-time, "Pumped Up Kicks" is a rare example of an overplayed pop song also being a great song. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDTZ7iX4vTQ

#8 Justice - "Civilization" from "Audio, Video, Disco" - A worthy follow-up to "D.A.N.C.E.", "Civilization" takes a little bit to get started, but accelerates quickly once it hits the chorus. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVq2yMuAMVQ

#7 Admiral Fallow - "Squealing Pigs" from "Boots Met My Face" - With the top six songs consisting of five pop hits and a relatively famous indie hit, "Squealing Pig" is basically the "underground" hit of 2011, a brilliant acoustic jam from yet another great Scottish indie rock band. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKy6MWS2iws

#6 Lady Gaga - "Born This Way" from "Born This Way" - The actual song starts at about 2:30. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wV1FrqwZyKw

#5 Florence And The Machine - "Shake It Out" from "Ceremonials" - The highest ranking song from Florence And The Machine on the countdown. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbN0nX61rIs

#4 Jay-Z And Kanye West - "No Church In The Wild" from "Watch The Throne" - Featuring Frank Ocean. - The incredible beat and Frank Ocean's outstanding chorus are more than enough to make a truly epic song.  Great verses by Kanye and Jay-Z are just gravy. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJt7gNi3Nr4

#3 The Naked And Famous - "Young Blood" from "Passive Me, Aggressive You" - The very instant this song starts, you can tell that you're listening to something special. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdO85Qf4Poc

#2 Gotye - "Somebody That I Used To Know" from "Making Mirrors" - Featuring Kimbra. - We've all heard this song a million times by now and for good reason.  The perspective switch is perhaps the best part of the song and highly reminiscent of "Don't You Want Me" by The Human League. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UVNT4wvIGY

#1 Adele - "Rolling In The Deep" from "21" - Seeing as how this was #1 on pretty much every critics list and the most played song of 2011, it can't really be a surprising pick for the top song of the year, but of all the songs that I've heard in recent years, "Rolling In The Deep" has the best chance of going down as one of the all-time greats. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYEDA3JcQqw

Well, there you have it, 500 songs.  Thanks to everyone who's followed the countdown and I'll see you again around this time next year for the top 500 songs of 2012!

#11 The Black Keys - "Lonely Boy" from "El Camino" - "El Camino" was the latest in a series of outstanding albums for The Black Keys, one of the hottest bands of the last decade. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_426RiwST8

The Top 500 Songs Of 2011 - Part 48 of 50, #30-#21

#30 The Foo Fighters - "Rope" from "Wasting Light" - The highest-charting song from "Wasting Light", the best Foo Fighters album since "The Colour And The Shape". - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbpqZT_56Ns

#29 Lupe Fiasco - "Words I Never Said" from "Lasers" - Featuring Skylar Grey. - Lupe made a lot of the right kind of enemies with this controversial and brilliant song. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22l1sf5JZD0

#28 The Beastie Boys - "Lee Majors Come Again" from "Hot Sauce Committee Part Two" - Hardly a hit and seemingly so obscure that no official video was ever made, this is by far my favorite song off of Hot Sauce Committee Part 2. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfVqHwjvOsI

#27 Jay-Z And Kanye West - "Niggas In Paris" from "Watch The Throne" - On top of the excellent beat and great lyrics, the "provocative" interlude in the middle of the song his hilarious. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfM_wS7qYfY

#25 Blitzen Trapper - "Love The Way You Walk Away" from "American Goldwing" - The best song off of "American Goldwing", the latest album from Blitzen Trapper, a great band with huge breakthrough potential. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Go8yeUSV4g

#24 Adele - "Someone Like You" from "21" - Adele was the biggest recording artist of 2011 (this isn't her top-charting song of the year...) and this epic ballad is one of the main reasons for her success with the critics and on the charts. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLQl3WQQoQ0

#23 Florence And The Machine - "Leave My Body" from "Ceremonials" - I would say that Florence And The Machine was the second biggest recording artist of 2011, though I actually like "Ceremonials" better than "21".  "Leave My Body" is yet another great barnburner off the album of the year. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdSzeDXH4c4

#22 Lupe Fiasco - "The Show Goes On" from "Lasers" - Prominently features a sample of "Float On" by Modest Mouse. - Combining Modest Mouse and Lupe Fiasco is one of the strangest ways to make a massive pop hit, but whatever works. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rmp6zIr5y4U

#21 Los Campesinos! - "By Your Hand" from "Hello Sadness" - I bet you never thought you'd hear a twee indie pop anthem.  Well, now you have. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ku_ZMPJ5M0

#38 Frank Turner - "Glory Hallelujah" from "England Keep My Bones" - This would be the most

The Top 500 Songs Of 2011 - Part 36 of 50, #150-#141

#150 Gotye - "I Feel Better" from "Making Mirrors" - It's very difficult to believe that this is the same singer who recorded "Somebody That I Used To Know", but it's from the same album. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRC--2qC_Qs

#149 Florence And The Machine - "Only If For A Night" from "Ceremonials" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkJK2KVFsi0

#148 The Decemberists - "Rox In The Box" from "The King Is Dead" - Remarkably, this is not named after a Dr. Seuss book. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Waz7PMZHeg

#147 Awolnation - "Not Your Fault" from "Megalithic Symphony" - How unlikely was it that any songs by Awolnation made my countdown?  Along with "Making Mirrors" by Gotye, this was the last album I added to my review list in 2011 and the only reason either came up was because I noticed "Sail" (or "Somebody That I Used To Know" in that case) on the Modern Rock Charts and looked up when the album came out. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jm9-yVdxbSs

#146 Austra - "Lose It" from "Feel It Break" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LJtMrhb558

#142 LMFAO - "I'm Sexy And I Know It" from "Sorry For Party Rocking" - Just because you've heard it so often that you're sick of it, doesn't mean it's not a good song. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GdyTnd-xtQ

#141 Weird Al Yankovic - "Perform This Way" from "Alpocalypse" - A parody of "Born This Way" by Lady Gaga.  Lady Gaga supposedly didn't approve of this song, which is a rarity of Yankovic's work. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ss_BmTGv43M
