Future Rock Legends - The Song Project - Explanation Of Nomination Process

Right now we're in the voting phase for 1984 songs. Any song released in 1984 is automatically eligible to be voted for.

In addition to songs that are in their first year of eligibility, there is a nominating process. This nominating process takes place during the first 24 hours after the end of the previous year's vote.

Each voter is allowed to nominate 5 songs that:

A. Haven't been voted in previously
B. Haven't been nominated for this year's vote yet
C. Are not in their first year of eligibility
D. Are not automatically nominated as a result of last year's vote

There are certain conditions that would allow a song to be automatically nominated for the next year's vote.

A. A song was involved in, and lost, a tiebreaker vote. Tiebreaker votes happen at the same time as nominations so that we don't lose a day to the tiebreaking process.

B. A song came within 1 vote of induction in the previous year's vote. Songs are eligible for this type of automatic nomination as often as it applies to their situation.

C. A song was in it's first year of eligibility (this year = 1984), got more than 3 votes, but failed to gain induction. Songs are only eligible for this type of automatic nomination once.

This year you are allowed to vote for any song that was first released in 1984. You are also allowed to vote for any song that has been nominated for this year's vote. This process is currently closed. You can find a list of eligible songs posted recently (earlier today) by Tahvo with 5 songs Tahvo missed posted by myself shortly thereafter.

Each voter can vote for 30 songs. There are no restrictions on how many new songs or how many old songs you can vote for. When votes are compiled, 25 songs are voted in. If there is a tie, as many as 28 songs can get in without a tiebreaker.

1984 is yet another ridiculously stacked year. It's not like this is going to get any easier in the future, but it's going to be more and more difficult to get older songs voted in.

Future Rock Legends - The Song Project - 1983

Here are the songs from 1983 that I feel are worthy of Hall Of Fame Induction, ranked in order of preference:

U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday - My favorite U2 song

The Police - Every Breath You Take - My favorite Police song

U2 - New Year's Day
Talking Heads - Burning Down the House
New Order - Blue Monday
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Pride And Joy
David Bowie - Modern Love

Bob Marley And The Wailers - Buffalo Soldier - Marley is under-represented in the Hall and this is one of the last worthy songs he released.

ZZ Top - Gimme All Your Lovin'
Yes - Owner of a Lonely Heart

Elvis Costello and The Attractions - Everyday I Write the Book - I'm not sure why the voters in this project don't support more Elvis Costello songs.

The Fixx - One Thing Leads To Another - It seems like every year has one legitimately great one hit wonder song.

Motley Crue - Shout At The Devil - I'm supporting a Motley Crue song. This will not happen often if ever again.

John Cougar Mellencamp - Authority Song
ZZ Top - Sharp Dressed Man

Metallica - Seek And Destroy - Metallica's first song to stand a chance at induction.

Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time - It's not her most famous song, but it is her best.

The Police - King Of Pain
U2 - Seconds

The Kinks - Come Dancing (This song was previously considered last year, so it's not eligible for voting in 1983)
